Participating in The Brasov, Romania Monthly Critical Mass Bike Ride

When I cycled into Brasov, Romania at the end of September and stumbled across the monthly Critical Mass bike ride, I had no way of knowing at the time that I would be staying in Brasov long enough to participate in the same bike ride one month later. Apparently, these critical mass bike rides take place on the last Friday of every month in Brasov and during the ride, a mixed group of cyclists from all across the city slowly pedal a 13 kilometer loop around the city. The pace was rather slow and we were followed the entire time by a police vehicle, but it was a lot of fun to tour the city via bike and pedal in formation with a group of Romanian cyclists ranging in age from eight to eighty.

After the bike ride was over I met up with a BicycleTouringPro.com reader named Botond and a friend of his who had driven more than 100 kilometers from a city north of Brasov to meet me. We took a short bike ride around the walled portion of the city, spoke for a while about touring bicycles, work and out future bicycle touring plans… and then we departed.
