How To Sync Your Cell Phone With Twitter
June 15, 2008 by Darren Alff · Leave a Comment
Yesterday I wrote an article about using Twitter to keep in touch with your friends and family while on you are out on your bicycle tour (Here is the link to that article).
While Twitter’s free service is a great way to keep in touch while out on the road, there is one major drawback: You need a computer in order to make a post or update… and for most traveling cyclists, carrying a computer on their bicycle or hunting down a computer every time they want to make a post or send an email is a huge pain in the butt. Should You Twitter About Your Bicycle Tour?
June 15, 2008 by Darren Alff · Leave a Comment
One of the biggest questions I get about bicycle touring is, “How do you keep in touch with your friends, family members, and co-workers while you are out on your bike?”
One way to stay in touch and keep people informed about your happenings out on the road is to use a new service called Twitter.
The service itself is a bit difficult to explain, so a video has been created for you. Read more

If you’re a web savy computer junkie, or simply someone who’s taken note of the Web 2.0 movement, then you’ve likely heard about “Twitter.”

Free International Phone Calls When Traveling By Bike
May 9, 2008 by Darren Alff · 3 Comments
I’m in Aruba at the moment, but you would never know it. Even though I’m spending my days riding around the island on my bike, I’m able to respond to my emails, update my blog, call my friends and family back home, and generally stay in touch with the outside world.
The Internet has really changed the way the traveling cyclist looks at keeping in touch while out on the road.
When I took my first tour in 2001, I didn’t even have a cell phone to call my own parents in the same state. Now I’m in a foreign country and not only able to call home, but I’m also able to speak with people in Germany, Russia, Australia, Malaysia… and more!
Today I want to talk about Skype and how you can use this free software to make free (or super cheap) international calls using your computer and an Internet connection. Read more

Dealing With Electronics While Traveling By Bike
November 22, 2007 by Darren Alff · 4 Comments
On my first bike tour in 2001, the only electronic device I carried with me was a camera. And not even a digital camera! It was a 35 mm camera than ran on one battery and used actual film. It’s hard to believe that was only seven years ago.
The world has definitely changed since then, and I now carry a whole host of electronics devices with my while I’m out on the road.
While I could get away from using all of these devices, I like to take them alone because they make me more comfortable while I’m out on my bike. Read more
