Commuting Goes Mainstream At The 2008 Interbike International Bicycle Expo
October 5, 2008 by Darren Alff
It’s been one week since I returned from the 2008 Interbike International Bicycle Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since that time I’ve shared the Lance Armstrong cyclo-cross race and the Urban Legend Fashion Show with you. But today I want to talk about something a little different.
What I want to talk about today was a big topic of conversation at the Expo this year… and something I think is only going to become more popular in the years to come.
What exactly am I talking about?
I’m talking about bicycle commuting!
With gas prices on the rise, the economy in a lurch and the environmental movement at one of its highest points ever, bicycle commuting is taking off like no other time in history!
Because commuting is become so popular (and such a good choice of transportation for many individuals), commuting was not only a popular topic of conversation at this year’s bicycle Expo, but this trend toward bike commuting was also seen in the products that were featured there.
Never in my life have I seen so many messenger bags. Never before have I seen so many people interested in bicycle mirrors. And never before have I seen so many different pack and pannier companies in one single locale. Getting around by bike is truly becoming a way of life for many individuals!
If you’d like to join this commuter lifestyle and see what it’s like to ride your bike to work, to the supermarket, or to any of the other places you regularly drive to in your car, check out the following websites for more information on bicycle commuting:
CommuteByBike.com: Tips, news, reviews and safety for bicycle commuters.

And when you’re done with that, check out my highlight video from the 2008 Interbike Expo in Las Vegas Nevada.
