Cycling Iceland

Dennis Koomen and his partner, Marijcke, spent fourteen days traveling around Southern Iceland on their bicycles. The video above offers a fantastic glimpse at what cycle touring in Iceland is all about.

This video is of special interest to me at this point in time because I am currently planning my own bicycle touring adventure in Iceland, and watching videos like this one enables me to see what the roads, weather, terrain and lodging options might be like once I arrive in Iceland later this year.

To learn more about Dennis and Marijcke’s Iceland cycling trip, head on over to their website at: www.toko-op-fietsvakantie.nl

Have you ever cycled in Iceland? If so, what was it like? What route did you take? And do you have any tips or pieces of advice for people like myself who are planing trips to the island in the near future? Leave a comment below and let me know what you have to say.

Beautiful video, brilliant colours, nice music. Love the cartoon effect!

Those who cycle around Iceland for many days bring their own bike to save money. But it is viable to rent a bike in Iceland if you’re only planning to spend a few days in the country.

I’m planning to do some cycle touring in Iceland in June, 2013. I’ll be solo unless I can find some companions. Anyone interested?

I visited Reyjavik in December (work-related). I didn’t get a chance to do anything outside the city, but really enjoyed the trip. The people are extremely nice and I found no language barrier. That experience inspired me to plan the cycle touring for this summer.

    Happy pedaling!

Hey atm, did you get over to Iceland to tour in June 2013?

I’m planning a June 2014 trip and I’m curious about your June experience with regard to traffic, tourists, and weather were.

From what I heard when we were there in October 2013, the high season is mid-June through AUgust, but I’m curious to hear a firsthand experience of a June tour. Any blog, video, or pictures of your trip anywhere on the net?

    Many thanks,
    Rick
