Korcula, Croatia

April 23, 2009 by

While staying in Orebic, Croatia, I took the ferry boat over to the nearby island of Korcula. The boat let us off about 2 kilometers from town, so I walked with some local kids from Orebic into downtown Korcula before bidding my new friends adieu and heading off the explore the town.

The place was nearly empty except for a few tourists who had been dropped off by a small cruise ship the day before. The tourists were being led around by a tour guide speaking a language I didn’t understand.

The old town part of the city is completely walled in and the streets between the buildings are narrow and steep. But despite the age of the city, it was bustling with life. People had their laundry hanging from lines in the narrow passage ways and the locals were hanging out in the shade on the south side of the city.
