One Day In Africa – Now On DVD

October 23, 2009 by Darren Alff

Long time readers of Bicycle Touring Pro may recall my praises for a documentary film titled,  A Map For Saturday. If you haven’t seen the film yet, I highly encourage you to check it out.

If you are unfamiliar with the film, A Map For Saturday is the story of those who backpack around the world for extended periods of time and what it feels like to live on the road with people you don’t know and in places that are completely unfamiliar. The film, which is shot, directed by, edited, and stars the young Brook Silva-Braga, fully captures what it feels like to travel around the world with no more than what you can fit inside a backpack.

Now, just a couple years after the release of A Map For Saturday, Brook has released his second feature length film, a documentary titled, One Day In Africa.

One Day In Africa is the story of six individuals from six different parts of Africa and what it’s like to live their lives on a daily basis in a continent most of the world is so very unfamiliar with.

I had the great pleasure of screening the film far before it was released to the general public and I can tell you that the film is indeed very well-made and quite interesting. I don’t think the film has the same magic that A Map For Saturday contained, but there are traces of Brook Silva-Braga’s unique filmmaking style throughout the film, which I very much enjoy.
