Photos From The 2009 FIBT World Cup Bobsled Race

November 15, 2009 by

Yesterday I attended the FIBT World Cup 4-Man Bobsled Race at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City, Utah – which is just a mile or so from my home. I went to the event with two girls (one from Germany and the other from Austria) who I happened to run into a couple weeks ago at the supermarket. They were speaking in German and I was able to strike up a conversation with the pair using a few of the words and phrases I picked up from my time in Switzerland, Germany and Austria earlier this year.

This was my first time attending a bobsled race in person (as I’ve only seen the races on TV prior to this point in time) and I was impressed with how fast the sleds were traveling (most of them were going around 83 miles per hour). There were teams present from locations all over the world. Germany and Austria had a team, as did Russia and the United States. Here are some photos from the event:

Cool! On my last bike tour, I got a guided tour of the Olympic bobsled course in Lake Placid, NY. They give rides in the summer on a wheeled sled, and in winter on a traditional bob. It costs $$ for a ride however.
