Sea To Summit Titanium Spork

When traveling by bike, you should always be on the look out for ways to make your load lighter. Weight is not a cyclist’s friend, and if you can find a way to reduce the weight or size of your packs, you should do it! Sometimes this is done by buying lighter or more compact equipment, but other times this can be done by combining two separate items and into a single item that can be used for both purposes.

That’s why when I was recently pursuing my favorite sporting goods store in Ventura, California – Cheap Sports; I came across the Sea To Summit Titanium Spork.

For years I’ve been using a regular fork and spoon on my bicycle tours (the same type of fork and spoon I use when eating at home). They’re made of silver, extremely durable, but also incredibly heavy. And because my traditional fork is so sharp and I didn’t want to poke holes in my panniers, I’ve been forced to wrap both utensils in a handkerchief and tie off the handkerchief with two rubber bands.

But I won’t have to do that anymore!

Originally designed for lightweight backpackers, this tiny utensil combines the designs of both a fork and spoon into one.

The Sea To Summit Titanium Spork I recently purchased is not unique when compared to other lightweight camping utensils on the market, but it is an item the self-supported cyclist can certainly benefit from. Weighing only 17 grams, a spork like this one is a great addition to any cyclist’s cooking gear.

If you are planning to cook your own food when traveling by bike, consider freeing up some space in your packs and lightening your load with the use of a titanium spork such as this one.

The spork is one of the worst ideas ever to arise out of the outdoor gear array. As a spoon, it doesn’t spoon well and as a fork, it doesn’t stab well. But it DOES stab well enough to puncture your bag when you stir up the food you added water to in your boil-in bag. Carry a fork and a spoon or design a tool with a fork on one end and a spoon on the other. What good is saving weight if your utensil doesn’t accomplish its intended purpose. Find another place to save weight. You’ll be happier for it.
