The Bicycle Touring Pro’s 4×9 List

July 16, 2010 by

I saw this on Alastair Humphrey’s website. He saw it on Ben Saunders’. Now I’ll add to the experience by creating a list of my own.

Four jobs I’ve had in my life

  • Editing room assistant (helping people learn to use high-tech video editing equipment)
  • Bike shop mechanic (I lasted less than 4-hours before I quit. My boss wanted me to change my college class schedule in the middle of the semester so I could work more hours at his shop.)
  • Mattress Salesman
  • Paperboy

Four movies I can watch over and over

Four places I have lived

  • Camarillo, California (Where I was born and raised)
  • Orange, California (Where I went to college)
  • Park City, Utah (Where I currently live)
  • In my car (During college – for nearly a year)

Four TV programs I love to watch

  • Seinfeld
  • That 70′s Show
  • Ancient Aliens (It’s a recent TV series. Does that count?)
  • The Wonder Years

Four places I have been on holiday

  • Mexico (with family)
  • Hawaii (with family)
  • Aruba (by myself)
  • Europe (by myself)

Four websites I visit daily

  • Google
  • Facebook
  • Digg
  • PayPal

Four of my favorite foods

  • Bean, Cheese & Rice Burritos
  • Olive Pizza
  • Any kind of ice cream
  • Orange Juice

Four places I would rather be right now

  • Outside
  • Exploring someplace new
  • Norway, Peru, China…
  • Having a meaningful, thought-provoking conversation

What about you? Make your own list, publish it online and share the link in the comments below!

I like it! Here’s my contribution on my fledgling website. Love that you lived in your car for a year Darren, I bet there is a story behind that! ?

    Darren,
I’ve never used Digg. Do you recommend it or is it another time-waster?

Al, I don’t actually use Digg to promote my own websites. I just look at Digg for the headlines and to get ideas for articles, subjects, niches, etc.

Just gave my website a facelift and I think I broke the above link, feel free to delete it:)

    Here’s one that works,,…… http://www.shanecycles.com/about/me/my-4×9-list (for now!)

Just watch your “thoughts in Athens” video, I find it interesting that you choose/chose several short stays instead of a through trip (do you have a link to your gold mining article:)), and that you’de rather travel in winter…….I’d rather drink 3-4 gallons of water a day than put my thermals on:)
