The Road That Has No End And 4 Other Travel Tidbits
February 23, 2009 by Darren Alff
Over the past week I’ve come across some cool travel goodies… and I thought I would take a minute or two to share them with you.
1) Tim & Cindie Travis Discuss The Bicycle Touring Lifestyle
Tim and Cindie Travis are the authors of the book, “The Road That Has No End” and this couple from Arizona State (USA) have been traveling around the world on bicycles since early 2002.
I’ve been in communication with the Travis’ and plan to interview them in the next couple weeks, but in the meantime, I thought I would share with you one of the Travis’ YouTube videos.
In the video below you will hear Cindie being interviewed on an Australian radio station and discussing how her bicycle trip around the world has changed her life in a number of ways.
Most importantly, take note of how this trip by bike is more than just a passing thing for the couple. This trip by bike has become their life and the way they live is now very much intertwined into the way they travel.
If you’d like to learn more about the Travis’ bicycle adventures, be sure to grab a copy of their first book, “The Road That Has No End“… or their new book, “Down The Road In South America“. Stay tuned for my upcoming interview with the couple.
2) Competitours – The Amazing Race (Without The Cameras)
If you’ve ever watched “The Amazing Race” and dreamt about being on the show yourself, there’s a new company offering up Amazing Race-like experiences for those willing to pay to participate.
Competitours is a competitive tour package pitting 17 adventurous twosomes against each other in a two week race around Europe. Teams cover 5 countries in 14 days, completing an assortment of daily challenges designed to highlight that day’s locale.
Yes, there’s a fee to participate, but the best part is – you don’t have to pay until after the experience is over.
“And is there a prize?” you may be thinking. You bet there is! Those who win the competition receive a travel package of 40 nights at Starwood hotels, 4 international flights, and more than six grand in spending money.
Does that sound like something you might be interested in? If so, check out www.competitours.com
3) Eight Ways The Financial Crisis Can Improve Your Life
I know a lot of people are struggling right now with the economy and everything, but maybe you can use the economic downturn to your advantage by doing something you’ve always meant to do, but never had the time or money to actually do it. Like a bike tour perhaps?

4) TIMBUK2 Classic Messenger Bag With Night Bird Fabric

Here’s a cool Timbuk2 messenger bag I saw at last year’s Interbike tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada. I saw it again here in Switzerland just a few days ago… and if you don’t like this particular bag with its single panel “Night Bird” fabric, there a number of other styles and colors available from. Grab one for yourself right here.
5) Travel Videos From Around The World
Finally, if you plan to travel this year, check out www.travelistic.com. The website features thousands of tour driven travel videos from around the world. Just pick out the place you are interested in visiting and you’re likely to find a video or two from that area.
Here’s one I found from Luzern, Switzerland:
As you can imagine, this can be a fun way to see the world… and a great way to scout out places to see and experience once you depart on your travels.
That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend… and I’ll speak with you soon!
