Behind-The-Scenes Video From My Bike Tour In Ukraine & Romania

In the spring of 2015, I (Darren Alff) rode my bicycle from Poznan, Poland to Brasov, Romania… and about half-way through that long-distance cycling adventure I started producing short daily video blogs from my trip. You can see the photos and watch all 16 episodes for free right here.

Now, more than a year after completing my bike tour across Ukraine and Romania, I thought it would be fun to take a look back and share some behind-the-scenes stories from that incredible cycling adventure.

Bicycle Touring Pro: Behind-The-Scenes in Ukraine

In this first video you’ll see the first two episodes of my bike tour in western Ukraine. The videos themselves are pretty rough, but they do a good job of capturing what it was like to cycle across south-western Ukraine on a bicycle. In the video you’ll see severely pot-holed roads; you’ll find out how much the average hotel costs in Ukraine; and you’ll hear the story about how I got held up by two armed guards while trying to cross the border from Ukraine to Romania.

In this second (much longer) behind-the-scenes video from my bike tour in Romania, you’ll follow me as I make my way by bicycle from northern Romania to central Romania and finish my travels by bike in the beautiful city of Brasov. Along the way you’ll hear about encounters with street dogs, snow-covered passes, Romanian bears… and even a few dinosaurs!
