Wild Camping Along Iceland’s Golden Circle

While bicycle touring in Iceland this past May, Brandon and I decided to make a short video showing off one of our typical wild camping sites in Iceland. Watch the video above and you will see how we hide our camp in the trees, how we set up our tents, and how we position our bicycles in such a way that we can keep an eye on them even when we are inside our tents at night.

When you are finished watching the video, be sure to check out these awesome pictures of our other campsites in Iceland.

Thanks for the video of your tents and organization. I like the way Brandon sets up his panniers and bike–he doesn’t have to rummage around trying to find things.

You both lay your bikes on the ground, so obviously condensation during the night isn’t a worry?

No, I don’t worry very much about my bike getting wet. If it rains, the bike gets wet. I dry it out when I can. When traveling by bike, you are basically living outside. You try to protect your things when you can (hide under a tree, bus stop, etc), but sometimes you just get wet. It isn’t the end of the world.

I trust there were no wild animals in the vicinity of the campsite. Keeping food in a tent is a recipe for disaster, if bears are around. Leaving bicycles outside of the tent is not a serious problem but better to keep them inside. That’s why I chose a Brompton… and keep a motion sensor alarm outside.. just in case..
