Travel Expenses From Montenegro, Albania And Kosovo

For the past six months I’ve been sharing my expenses with you as I slowly make my way by bike from Switzerland to Greece. This month is no different. However, the landscape and locations visited on my travels over the past four weeks were unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.

After having spent the first 24 days of June living in a small one-bedroom apartment in Tivat, Montenegro, I cycled for six days down the coast of Montenegro, across the mountains of Albania, through the Sara National Park in Kosovo, and then finally crossed into the Republic of Macedonia on the 29th of June.

Below are my expenses from the month of June, 2009:

Days #1-23

  • Apartment in Montenegro – $500 Euros ($708.67 USD)
  • Groceries – 85.75 Euros ($121.55 USD)
  • 2 Pizzas – 13.60 Euros ($19.27 USD)

Day #24

  • Beach Bungalo in Sutomore, Montenegro – $21.45 Euros ($30.40 USD)

Day #25

  • Hotel In Shkoder, Albania – FREE!
  • Pizza – 350 Lek ($3.75 USD)
  • 2 Ice creams – 200 Lek ($2.15 USD)
  • Internet – 0.20 Euros ($0.28 USD)

Day #26

  • Hotel In Puke, Albania – 20 Euros ($28.35 USD)
  • Pizza and cappachino – 300 Lek ($3.22 USD)
  • 2 Ice creams – 400 Leka ($4.29 USD)
  • Snacks For The Road – 250 Lek ($2.68 USD)
  • Internet – 30 Lek ($0.32 USD)

Day #27

  • Ride from Puke to Kukes – 4,500 Lek ($48.29 USD)
  • Hotel In Prizren, Kosovo – 30 Euros ($42.53 USD)
  • Pizza – 5 Euros ($7.09 USD)
  • 2 Ice Creams – 1.80 Euros ($2.55 USD)
  • Snacks For The Road – $200 Lek ($2.15 USD)
  • Internet – 0.30 Euros ($0.43 USD)

Day #28

  • Hotel In Kacanik, Kosovo – 20 Euros ($28.35 USD)
  • Pizza – 3 Euros ($4.25 USD)
  • 2 Ice Creams – 1.20 Euros ($1.70 USD)
  • Snacks For The Road – 3.70 Euros ($5.24 USD)

Day #29

  • Pizza – 240 Denar ($5.50 USD)
On the 29th of June I checked into a new apartment in Skopje, Macedonia where I will remain until the 13th of July, before cycling into Greece and then taking a ferry or train to Athens around the end of the month.
While there were a few additional expenses for June that occurred on the 30th day, I have decided to include them in next month’s expense summary. So stay tuned for that when I report the cost of living and traveling in both Macedonia and Greece.
