Stan is the suffix indicating a country, for a Bulgarian and obviously for foreigners it sounds bizarre and a little odd, even insulting.
this is just the language, In Turkish , Yunanistan (Greece), Gürcistan (Georgia) etc. what makes you think it is insulting, just calm down, as i said it is just the way of saying a country, dont be that much sensitive.
