In 2013, I spent 3 whole months cycling across South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. I created a video about the two-week-long mountain bike tour I participated in while I was there, but I shot some additional footage during my self-supported bicycle tour across these three countries, and I never did anything with that footage… until now. Watch the video above and you’ll get an idea of what it’s like to bike tour across South Africa.

Hey Darrin,
I just became a big fan of touring and found your videos on the net, thank you so much for all the work you put into this sport. I have been watching all I can on bicycle touring recently, my main question is, when I see people touring and the they start hiking or walking around a foreign city how do the lock up their panniers, I don’t see them carrying them in their videos, I never like to leave anything out of my site, what is the best advice for this? Thank you I look forward to hearing your comment!
Best,

Well, the short answer is… you find somewhere safe to leave your bicycle if you want to walk around without it. If you are staying in a big city, that usually means leaving your bike and belongings inside a hotel, an apartment you are renting, or with someone you trust.
